Communities In Schools of New Mexico (CIS) Volunteer Program: CIS is actively recruiting volunteer academic tutors for grades K-12, as well as food distribution assistants for its Site Coordinators.
Volunteer tutors give young people an opportunity to have a caring, one-on-one relationship with an adult, while improving academic knowledge and skills and strengthening self-confidence. Tutors are matched with students that are struggling in English Language Arts or math. Because many of our students’ primary language is Spanish, CIS desperately needs bilingual volunteers; but it is certainly not a requirement.
CIS Site Coordinators need help with weekly food distribution. Volunteers help with food pick up from a local partner, in addition to packaging and distributing the food to a school’s community.
Volunteers must be willing to commit to a minimum of one hour a week during the school year depending on the needs of the student/teacher/Site Coordinator.
